How Smell Brings Me Some…things #ELspression

It’s a common knowledge that smell can remind you of things. It can be the smell of a cup of coffee from that certain coffee shop that you often visited in the past, it can be the smell of perfume from someone’s you admired at that time, it can be the smell of the hand soap in your previous office that you left because of reasons, or it can be the natural body smell of that one you used to know very well.
Smell and memory are well-linked,
compared to other senses. A smell can trigger a sudden presentation of some
memories or faces or feelings that have happened long ago or even only few days
ago.
To me, smell also triggers
memories; besides places, pictures, songs, words—yeah, I remember things too
good sometimes, that stresses me out in some cases. I love it how smell can
remind me of someone, because it feels so personal. Once I smell that familiar
smell, thousand memories intrude my head: the smiles, the laughter, the
presents, the touches, the tears, the fights, the chances, the distance.
And today, I have been so
pathetic trying to keep the least smell of that someone on a piece of cloth. I
don’t want to keep smelling it because I don’t want the smell disappears and
leaves nothing for me to hang on while that someone is away.
The smell
leads me to many possibilities that I’m afraid to think about.
